Transmission design

Calculation types

  • Design
Basic dimensions and all other geometry parameters of gear listed below in “Calculation results” section are calculated by external loads, materials, longevity, and operation modes.
  • Design with constraints
Gear design calculation with fixed some gear parameters.
  • Torque checking
Maximum output torque calculation by given gear geometry and longevity.
  • Longevity checking
Longevity calculation by given gear geometry and torque.
  • Summary addendum modification calculation for given center distance
  • Geometry
    All gear geometry parameters calculation.

Calculation results

I. Results of gearing calculation for arbitrary reference profile:

  • Gear dimensions by loads and longevity.
  • All required gear geometry parameters.
  • Forces in a contact.
  • Acting contact and bending stresses.
  • Allowable contact and bending stresses.
  • Control parameters.
  • Gearing quality parameters.
  • Tolerances of pinion and wheel basic dimension and gearing.
  • Backlash and backlash tolerance.
  • Involute tooth shape by rolling method to control thinning/undercut.
  • Engagement process modeling to control interference.
  • Automatic gear drawing generation.

II. Results of flexible connection transmission calculation:

  • Dimensions of pulleys, stars, chains and belts.
  • Acting loads.
  • Automatically generated drawings of pulleys and stars.

Transmission types

1. Involute tooth gearing:

  • External spur
  • Internal spur
  • Helical
  • Herring-bone
  • Bevel gear with straight teeth
    -With same addendum modification;
    -With different addendum modifications.
  • Spiral bevel gears of three different tooth shapes
  • Worm gears with
    - Archimed worm
    - Convolute worm
    - Involute worm
    - Torus-like worm
    - Conical worm

2. Flexible connection transmission:

  • Belt transmission
  • Flat belt
  • V-belt
  • Chain transmission of different types

Calculation criteria

  • Gearing is designed based on fatigue strength for contact and bending stresses.
  • Chain transmission is designed based on wear-resistance and static strength.
  • Belts are designed based on load-carrying capacity.

Extra features

  • Arbitrary or some predefined operation regimes can be used.
  • Customized database including standard tools, materials and other standard pa-rameters can be used by calculation.
  • Calculation results and initial data can be exported in:
    -DXF
    -RTF
    -Solid Edge (*.par)
    -INI
    -XLS
    -Text file with separators
-Module can be easily customized for required standards

Required modules and components

  • APM Trans – transmission design module
  • APM Graph – 2D graph editor (recommended)
  • APM Base – database management module (recommended)
  • APM Mechanical Data – mechanical engineering database of standard machine elements and reference data
  • APM Material Data – material database
